Week 1: Reflect Deeply on Your Past

Week 1: Reflect Deeply on Your Past

Kickstart your self-discovery process by taking some time to reflect on key moments and influences from your past that shaped you. Here are some productive ways to reflect:
Identify Pivotal Life Experiences: What were the most pivotal life experiences you went through? Consider peak emotional moments like falling in love, milestone events like graduations, or challenges like switching careers. How did these experiences impact you and what did they teach you about yourself? Did a health crisis give you renewed perspective? Did a failure reveal your resilience? Contemplate how these formative experiences revealed pieces of who you really are.
Evaluate Influential Relationships: Reflect on the key people who have come in and out of your life over the years. How did parents, partners, friends or mentors shape your personality and perspectives? Perhaps a teacher fueled an early passion or a relative role model edessential values.

Consider reaching out to people who know your history well to gain added insight into the forces that shaped you.
Connect with Your Earlier Self: Go back in time and visualize your younger self at different stages of life. What were your little hopes, dreams, interests and sources of joy? Were there passions or creative outlets you've lost touch with over the years? Revisit old keepsakes, photos and writings to reconnect with forgotten parts of yourself that may hold keys to what fulfills you.
Identify Core Values: Recurring themes in your history point to your core values. What principles and qualities guided your goals and decision-making in the past? Common values include integrity, ambition, adventure, loyalty, spirituality, justice, creativity, leadership or community. Get clear on your top 5 core values and how these provide clues about who you are.
Keep an Ongoing Journal: Recording your self-reflections and realizations in an ongoing journal supports increased self-awareness over time.

Date each entry and regularly review what you've learned at different stages of introspection. New insights will continue to bubble up as you dig deeper through self-inquiry.
By taking a comprehensive look back at the significant experiences that shaped you and the important people who influenced you, reflecting on what brought you joy and meaning in earlier years, getting clear on your core values and keeping a journal, you lay the groundworkfor gaining a richer understanding of your authentic self in the present. This self-knowledge provides clarity for moving forward in your journey to pursue dreams that capture your true passions and purpose.
