When to Seek Out Positive Experiences during Tough Times

When to Seek Out Positive Experiences during Tough Times

Did you know that the majority of your brain is active only a few minutes each day? It’s true. The vast majority of your brain’s capacity is reserved for the most important moments of your life. The thing is, the brain won’t give up its prime real estate without a fight. Because to function optimally, it needs positive experiences throughout the day to keep itself activated and motivated. When we don’t get enough positive experiences in daily life, however, our brains tend to hold on to negative experiences as if they were gold. As a result, these stressful times can lead us to withdraw from society and become less social than usual. Fortunately, this isn’t something we have to accept as individuals or as a culture – there are ways we can prevent this from happening at all costs! And the best part? Your friends, family members and acquaintances will thank you for it once things get back on track again.

Make the Most of Your Daily Routine

No matter what kind of day lies ahead, one thing that’s always a good idea is to stay positive and make the most of the day. Start off your day with a funny Facebook status, send a text message to a friend that makes them smile, drink a glass of lemon water or eat a piece of fruit to get your serotonin flowing.

If you have to go to work, do something that helps you get through the day positively, like preparing yourself mentally for the fact that you’ll most likely have to deal with a few people who don’t act in a very social way. If a negative experience comes up, remind yourself that it was just a moment and try to get back to the positive vibe you were in when you started.

Spend Time in Nature

Ever since the idea of rewiring our brains was proposed, outdoor activities have been suggested as a great way to boost positive experiences.

And for a good reason. Spending time in nature has been proven to have a direct positive impact on your mood.

One reason for this is because we evolved in a natural environment, so the sights and sounds that come with being in the great outdoors are actually very calming. And there are various other health benefits associated if you choose to participate in outdoor activities as well.

Be a Part of Your Community

If you’re stuck in a bad place, one of the best things you can do is to make a really strong effort to get involved in your community. You see, when you become a member of a community, you are not only a part of an entirely new social circle, but you are also a part of the larger society that helps to make up your culture as well.

There are countless ways to get involved: volunteer at a local organization, join a club, join a sports team or just make it a habit to walk or bike to work or school. You don’t have to put any effort into it, but it can have a huge positive effect on your mood and make you feel like you’re participating in life again.

Always Have a Purpose for Going Out

Bad times often come with more nights out with your friends than usual, but that doesn’t have to be the case. You can prevent this from happening and make the most of your social life by always having a purpose for going out. What does this purpose need to be? Simply getting to know your friends better, inviting them to do something, or getting to know a new person. Having a purpose for going out can help you to avoid going out every night and force you to interact with the people you want to be around instead.

Keep Learning & Networking

If you’re in a rut, or if you’ve been feeling a bit stressed out lately, one thing you can do to avoid a downward spiral and get your mood back on track is to keep learning and networking. Learning new things, getting in touch with your passions and expanding your worldview are proven to be among the best methods to boost your mood.

One way to do this is to sign up for a course, get yourself a mentor or get a mentor. You don’t have to do something that is necessarily very exciting, but it can help you to stay positive.

Conclusion

Bad times don’t have to suck! In fact, the most important things you can do to get through tough times are exactly the same things that will take you through them with positive ease – make time for your passions, spend time in nature, be a part of your community, and keep learning and networking.

If you make these habits a part of your daily life, you’ll find that you have more energy, are more motivated and are more in control of your life than you’ve ever been before. And that, my friends, is how you get through tough times with relative ease!
